Parting Shot: Lights, Fire, Relaxation

Tucked against a canyon and hillside in the tony area of Rancho Mirage, California, this modern home embraces angles and dispenses with roofs over many of the living areas. Floor to ceiling glass and sliding panels add to the indoor/outdoor experience.

Created by renowned architect Brian Foster, the living room is described as “a craggy cave,” and the home as having multiple “amazing fire features.” A massive, cantilevered overhang provides drama and soft night lighting for the outdoor theater, which also boasts spectacular views of the surrounding mountainside and city lights. Note the linear fire providing backlighting for the setting.
