Parting Shot: Ancient Party Barn

In Postling, Kent, the architectural firm of Liddicoat & Goldhill undertook the restoration and renovation of a cluster of historic agricultural buildings into a getaway for relaxing and gathering.
The owners, a fashion designer and a digital designer, are avid collectors of architectural artifacts, many of which were used in the project. The result is a unique interpretation of the 18th Century threshing barn.
One of the central spatial challenges was insertion of a mezzanine (for sleeping and bathing) into the main part of the barn. A tapering brick chimney supports the corner of the mezzanine, and incorporates a cantilevered, waxed steel staircase and an open fireplace.
The result? An Ancient Party Barn.
