In design, form and function are often equally important. Case in point: Although a gate and a trellis are usually two separate things with different functions, this main entry gate and trellis structure were custom designed elements created by Paul Sangha Landscape Architecture. The structure, fabricated by Metal and Wood Products, was intended to be a functional and sculptural feature within the garden.
The design drew inspiration from the branching pattern and dappled light of a tree, with the density of the pattern gradually increasing to form the overhead roof structure. The slender inverted L-structure was designed to maintain unobstructed views of the garden and provide shade over the fire pit patio. The waterjet cut pattern with I-beam frame forms the backdrop for the custom designed limestone fire pit. Mini-LED light fixtures were carefully integrated within the patterning of the roof, creating a welcoming glow over the seating area.
