Retro Resurgence Sparks
Woodard’s Iconic Sculptura Revival
Friday, September 19, 2014, Coppell, Texas
Hermes scarves, Ferraris, Mies van der Rohe architecture – all coveted for their forward-looking style, at once totally modern and assuredly timeless. In 1956 Woodard produced an outdoor collection that, by its very design and continued demand, took its rightful place among furniture’s iconic styles – Sculptura.
With molded, woven wire as its framework, Sculptura moved outdoor furnishings of the day from uninspired and utilitarian to sleek, modern and technically advanced. When you were draped in a Sculptura chair you became a little cooler, a bit sexier, more the Mad Men version of yourself.
Today’s Sculptura was unveiled at the 2014 Casual Market, and still sports its curvaceous wire mesh arms, back and seat, but with more generous proportions to meet the 21st century ideal of comfort. Edited to four statement pieces – the classic occasional chair, a spring chair, side table, and a stunning two-seat bench – Sculptura demands attention wherever it is used. And, it goes virtually anywhere due to Woodard’s use of high-tech protective finishes that can withstand the un-friendliest weather conditions.
The original made style history even as it was only available in a short list of finishes. Sculptura for 2015 is available in an eye-popping array of more than 30 colors and finishes, dressed with more than 200 outdoor-ready cushion fabric choices, providing endless design possibilities.
Style seekers can find Sculptura at fine outdoor and specialty retailers beginning in December.
