In Memoriam
Dan Maddox

Thursday, October 2, 2014,
Founder, Hearth Products Controls

It is with deep regret and sadness that I must inform you of the passing of Dan Maddox on Tuesday, Sept. 30th, 2014. Dan passed away peacefully at Brighton Gardens Senior Living in Centerville, Ohio, with his wife Connie by his side.

Dan was the founder of The Maddox Company in 1975; it operated as a manufacturer’s rep agency. He also founded and eventually sold two other Ohio-based, two-step distributorships throughout the ’80s & ’90s. Dan was truly a pillar to many in the industry as well as local business by investing in other start-up ventures just because he strongly believed in helping others achieve their dreams as he did.

The Maddox Company eventually began manufacturing in 1989, and that led to what is known today as HPC (Hearth Products Controls Company).

Dan was very active in the hearth industry overall – an industry he truly loved. He realized early and strongly believed in the importance of the HPBA, and was also a supporter of the NFI. He served on the Board of Directors for the Mid-States HPBA and also was a past President, a job he was very proud of doing. In 2011 he was named Board Member Emeritus of MSHPBA for his many contributions to the industry.

Dan finally retired in 2010 at the age of 82 after selling HPC - “his Baby” – to relax and enjoy life.

In the short time that I had the pleasure of knowing Dan he taught me so much about the industry and the business overall - as I know he did for so many of you. He will be truly missed by the industry that he helped grow, as well as his family and many, many friends who were so familiar with his warm smile and quick wit.

I know many of you knew him very well and spent time with Dan beyond the business world. I am extremely sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

 Greg Steck, President
Hearth Products Controls Company
