Hearth & Home Technologies Recalls Pellet Stoves and Inserts Due to Laceration Hazard

Recall Summary

Name of Product: Quadra-Fire Mt. Vernon E2 Pellet Stoves and inserts     

Hazard: Fuel can back up, creating unstable combustion and a pressure build up inside the firebox and glass can break, posing a laceration hazard.

Remedy: Repair
Consumers should stop using the unit, turn the small blue dial on the stove or insert to the -4 position and follow the daily maintenance requirements in the owner's manual. They should contact the retailer where the unit was purchased to arrange for free installation of an enhanced control board. The firm's dealers are contacting known purchasers.

Recall Details

Units: About 2,000

Description:  This recall involves Quadra-Fire® Mt. Vernon E2 pellet stoves and inserts. The cast iron pellet stove is about 32 inches high, 28 inches wide, 29 inches deep and has a matte black, sienna bronze, porcelain mahogany or porcelain black finish. The inserts are about 34 inches wide in front by 24 inches high by 15 inches deep. The viewing area is 21 inches by 14 inches and has a matte black, sienna bronze or porcelain mahogany finish. The following recalled model numbers are printed on the unit rating plate, which is located near the controls and in the instruction manual.

Stoves: MMTV-E2-PBK, MTV-E2-CSB, MTV-E2-MBK, MTV-E2-PDB, MTV-E2-PFT, MTV-E2-PMH.

Inserts: MTV1-E2-CSB, MTV1-E2-MBK, MTV1-E2-PMH.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received eight reports of glass breaking. No injuries have been reported.

Sold at: Stove stores from February 2014 through January 2015 for about $4,000.
