The DEDON Orbit XXL rotating daybed and lounger created by indoor/outdoor home furnishings and textiles designer Richard Frinier was recently identified as the “best outdoor furniture design over the past decade" after winning a “Best of Year - Best in 10” award from Interior Design magazine. To heighten the anticipation of the magazine celebrating its tenth year of bestowing its coveted Best of Year design awards to the best-of-the-best in product design and also architectural and interior design projects, Interior Design added a new category of design awards along with their very popular Best of Year awards, called the "Best of Year - Best in 10.”  

Winners of the best designs of the past decade were determined by the magazine’s contest jury and also their loyal following of architects, interior designers and trade designers who voted online earlier in the year for their favorite creations in what is widely recognized as the preeminent design competition for members of the design trade.

The ORBIT XXL garnered the “Best of Year - Best in 10” award in the Outdoor Furniture product category during a standing-room only gathering of nearly 1,000 design industry leaders, icons and luminaries at the Frank Gehry IAC Building in New York City the first week of December. Influential editor-in-chief of Interior Design magazine, Cindy Allen, and her colleague Carol Cisco, the publisher of the magazine, announced the winners together in a very modern and high-energy atmosphere where attendees enjoyed cocktails in a music-filled space, while catching up with design colleagues from around the world.

Contest honorees and winners were able to view all of the final entries from all categories projected from floor to ceiling and across the entire length of the hall, while listening carefully to learn who would win the Best of Year awards for their remarkable projects and products, as well as the first-time-ever Best of Year - Best in 10 awards.

“The original Orbit and Orbit XXL forever changed the landscape of the outdoor furniture industry, because people started viewing their outdoor living areas a little differently after seeing how they could design private getaways at home just by adding an Orbit daybed into their space.
