Glen Edgar, 63, well known in the technical circles of the HPBA and ASHRE, unexpectedly passed Sept. 21, 2016, at his home in Lancaster, Ohio. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technical University in Houghton, Michigan, Edgar for seven years worked in the fire protection division of Underwriters Laboratories, Northbrook, Illinois, conducting safety certification investigations for products including chimneys and other venting products.
In 1990, he joined Selkirk Corp., becoming director of Research and Development in 2002. He left the corporate world in 2013 to establish VenTech Consulting to provide technical venting consulting and expert witness services.
Edgar served on numerous code and technical committees for both the HPBA and ASHRE including the NFPA 54 and NFPA 211 committees, and several UL and ULC standards development groups. He held two venting-related product patents. Edgar is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary, three children and one granddaughter.
“Glen loved what he did,” says Edgar’s wife, Mary. “Not many people can say that, but he woke every day thinking about work because he actually loved what he did.”
