By Cheryl Russell, American Consumers Newsletter

The number of televisions in the average American home is declining, according to newly released data from the 2015 Residential Energy Consumption Survey. There were an average of 2.3 televisions per household in 2015, down from 2.6 in 2009. Fewer households have three or more TVs (39 percent, down from 44 percent in 2009), and more households have no TVs (2.6 percent, up from 1.3 percent in 2009).

The number of televisions per household member rises with age. Households headed by people aged 75 or older have twice as many televisions per household member (1.47) as the youngest householders (0.72).
