In Memoriam
Bernard “Burnie” Dolberg
1928-2017

Monday, November 20, 2017

Bernard “Burnie” Dolberg passed away on Nov. 16, 2017. He was the longtime owner of The Fireplace Place in Fairfield, New Jersey. Dolberg was a proud WWII veteran. He was a pioneer and fixture in the Hearth Industry for over 35 years.

Dolberg started his fireplace business, United Fireplaces, in 1976 trading under the name The Fireplace Place. He was a fixture at the store until his “retirement” in 1991, when his son Joel took over the business, but he could still be found helping customers and working the counter and phones until 2010. Dolberg was one of the first in our industry to use the then-new idea of telemarketing, selling zero clearance fireplaces and retractable awnings via the telephone, to customers throughout central New Jersey.

Burnie was preceded into death by his wife of 69 years – Gloria – who only passed away seven weeks ago. They are survived by four sons – Joel, Jeff, Steve, and Dave.
