Jim Kemp has been named vice president, Product Development for Specialty at Agio, USA. He is responsible for ensuring new products are developed that satisfy the unique demands of Patio Specialty retailers and their customers.
“It’s a great opportunity to work with the level of talent Agio has put together. Our designers and Research & Development center are second to none that I have encountered within the industry,” Kemp said. “I’m excited to be part of the Agio team, and looking forward to helping specialty retailers succeed in the Outdoor category for years to come.”
“Jim has joined us to focus 100% on Specialty, and he’s absolutely hit the ground running,” said Mike Gaylord, Agio, USA, vice president of Sales. “Our successful introductions during the Winter Las Vegas Market to reorient the industry’s traditional production calendar will require our Specialty retailers to rethink their merchandising strategies. We’re looking to Jim to help retailers adapt to ensure they have the right mix of products when they need them. We’re excited to have Jim on the Agio team."
Kemp is a 25-year veteran of the outdoor furniture business that includes past experience in product development with brands such as Meadowcraft, Brown Jordan International, and Plantation Patterns. His extensive knowledge and experience working in China and managing Asian supply chain issues will be invaluable for his new position at Agio.
Most recently, Kemp was VP, Product Development and Asia operations with Plantation Patterns, in Birmingham, Alabama, where he oversaw design and development of fabric products between domestic design centers and international operations in China.
Bob Gaylord, president of Agio, USA, said, “Jim knows about hand’s-on design work. That orientation, coupled with his development background and knowledge of retail gained while working with some of the biggest names in our category, positions him well for this role with our company.”
Kemp has a degree in arts from George C. Wallace Community College in Dothan. He and his wife Tammy currently reside in the Birmingham, Alabama area.
