In Memoriam
Mike Shippy, 1954-2018

Thursday, June 28, 2018

Mike Shippy, Product Development manager for Empire Comfort Systems, unexpectedly passed away on May 26, 2018. He will be remembered for his passion for life, his countless contributions to Empire, and his friendship.

Mike started his career as a propane salesman and worked his way up to product development. The value and innovation he brought to the hearth and grill lines at Empire was exceptional. Mike was a vital player in the development of the TruFlame fireplaces and inserts, Q-series grills, Clean-Face fireplaces, Portrait fireplaces, and Driftwood log sets, among many others.

Most importantly, Mike was humble and always a friend, making sure to visit each department during his visits to Empire to share a story or a laugh. He will be missed dearly by the entire Empire family, as well as many other friends and colleagues throughout the hearth and propane industries. When the next chapter of Empire’s history book is written, Mike Shippy will be an integral part of the story.

Mike loved the outdoors and being active in living life to the fullest. He was always moving, whether it was playing golf, bike riding, tending to his garden, or being an ultimate grill master. He enjoyed being with his family. He was a great friend to those around him and had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and a laugh that will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Vicky Shippy of The Villages, Florida; daughter and son-in-law Ashley & Kyle Mahler of Howell, Michigan; stepson, Steve O’Doherty of Howell, Michigan; stepdaughter Lisa O’Doherty of Hoell, MIichigan; and two grandchildren, Baylei O'Doherty and Jacob Mahler.
