Designer Richard Frinier Introduces “Network”

Wednesday, November 28, 2018

Inspired by the “network” of social media, Richard Frinier’s Network Collection of Sunbrella fabrics is a subtle yet transformative layering of constructions, patterns, and colors that capture and suspend the attention span with energetic styles that reference an interpretation of shared digital content, including everything from streaming video to vibrant imagery.

“The world is moving at a rapid pace, and we’re all online becoming increasingly obsessed with a sense of immediacy and instant gratification. I wanted to press pause and take a screenshot of the digital landscape by translating popular Internet slang into original, relevant, and memorable textile creations that would be immediately universal and understandable by design,” Richard Frinier says.

“I especially like the range of color contrasts we were able to achieve, from more subtle tone-on-tone hues to experimenting with a wavelength of frequencies and fusion of color combinations that adapt easily across countless upholstery applications for both interior and exterior spaces.”

“We’re extremely proud of our long-standing partnership with Richard Frinier and the opportunity to collaborate on innovative fabric collections equally suited for indoors and outdoors,” says Greg Voorhis, executive Design director for Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, the manufacturer of Sunbrella fabrics. “This collection delivers a visual dialogue through layering of various textures, patterns and colors. The fabrics within Network are intentionally designed to reflect a sense of substance and movement.”

Frinier reveals eight constructions and patterns woven across 11 distinctive and correlating colorways.

  • Metrics is an understated base cloth construction that serves as the common ground to complement all designs within the Network Collection. Its simple weave structure is lightly embellished with the visual markings of digital metrics perfect for beginner, intermediate, and advanced users. Metrics is available in Cloud White, Social Sand, Blogger Beige, Streaming Grey, Trending Taupe, Cyber Charcoal, Cloud Indigo, Flash Indigo, Rose Indigo, Browser Brown, and Bots Blue.
  • Code translates open-source lines of digital information into an asymmetrical stripe. It’s available in Streaming Grey, Blogger Beige, Trending Taupe, Cyber Charcoal, Cloud Indigo, Flash Indigo, and Rose Indigo.
  • Online is a directional pattern with random intensities and frequencies. Online is available in Streaming Grey, Blogger Beige, Trending Taupe, Cyber Charcoal, Cloud Indigo, Flash Indigo, and Rose Indigo.
  • Hashtag plays on various elements of the Network Collection with a soft-scape reference to its popular social media namesake and function. Hashtag’s colorways include Streaming Grey, Blogger Beige, Trending Taupe, Cyber Charcoal, Cloud Indigo, Flash Indigo, and Rose Indigo.
  • Wi-Fi connects the mood of the digital Ethernet with everyday lifestyles through its unique computer-generated shapes, pixelated elements, and high-speed compatibility. It’s available in Streaming Grey, Blogger Beige, Trending Taupe, Cyber Charcoal, Cloud Indigo, Flash Indigo, and Rose Indigo.
  • Dot Com and its enterprising and small yet open pattern work reflect the intriguing and addictive nature of e-commerce activity. This pattern is available in Streaming Grey, Blogger Beige, Trending Taupe, Cyber Charcoal, Cloud Indigo, Flash Indigo, and Rose Indigo.
  • Algorithm visually captures computer configurations and transmissions in this abstract yet intelligently styled and medium-scaled pattern. Algorithm is available in Streaming Grey, Blogger Beige, Trending Taupe, Cyber Charcoal, Cloud Indigo, Flash Indigo, and Rose Indigo.
  • Vector, created for the unique visitor, is a graphic pattern inspired by a streaming system of data input and output. A sonic array of start and end points create artful shapes and angles in between.
