The company’s products, both reclaimed and custom, are well displayed in Stephenie Nash’s warm, sophisticated and interesting design.

Gutted to Glamorous: A Warehouse Transformed

Stephenie Nash, Lead Designer.

Designer Stephenie Nash was given the task of completely transforming a gutted warehouse destined to become a commercial retail showroom for Elite Architectural Supply, a company that supplies architectural elements such as reclaimed brick, reclaimed wood, as well as custom-designed fireplaces, garage doors, windows and more.

“They brought me in to do the design work for their showroom and offices,” says Nash, “and I designed every square inch of that space. Since they create custom fireplaces, they said, ‘Let your imagination loose and we can build anything that you come up with.’

A reclaimed wooden floor and reclaimed brick ceiling continue the rustic, industrial, modern theme of Elite’s new home.

“We also did a 21-ft. linear fireplace that has a couple of jogs in it. Above that fireplace is a curved wall of aluminum, designed to mimic drop ceilings you see in many warehouses. On either side, the wall is draped in a vinyl wallcovering that exudes metallic qualities. “Above the conference table is my industrial/modern take on a chandelier, composed of a large reclaimed beam – to showcase a material used frequently by Elite – and workers’ hang lights.

“There’s another, smaller linear fireplace behind the bar area, and we bought a wall-mounted linear fireplace backed by LED lights and hung it in the bathroom. Although I’m not particularly fond of LED lights around fireplaces, the owner wanted them.

“At that point we had enough horizontal fireplaces, which is a completely expected design. We wanted to take it out of the box and do something different, something vertical.

“John, who is my husband and a builder, and I put our heads together and came up with this vertical, spiraling fireplace (see front cover). It came together only because the client actually builds custom fireplaces, and because he allowed us to ‘Let your mind loose.’”

Ed. Note: Elite Architectural Supply is located in the North Scottsdale Airpark (Arizona) and welcomes visitors.

Combine a reclaimed beam and workers’ lights and you have a new view of a chandelier.
